Prevailing westerly wind.

This is Robert Burns country, and the Scottish writer and poet drank from the well here and often visited this area of the Solway coast for its spa and health benefits. Partly due to undernourishment as a youth and a difficult life as the son of a poor tenant farmer, he long suffered from rheumatic heart disease, and it was from here that he spent the last few days of his life before a final journey home to Dumfries where he died on July 21, 1796. One of the greatest Scottish poets and songwriters, the self educated Burns made a huge contribution to Scotland's national heritage.
