Leaving Sedbergh, the next 30 miles to Appleby-in-Westmorland finds undulating, happy-tyre roads, and some wonderful scenery. It passes around the edge of the Howgill Fells (only a few miles from the Lake District here and almost National Park number 4 for the route), on to Orton, Sunbiggin Tarn and Great Asby Scar moors, before joining the Cumbria Cycleway into Appleby. This whole section is easy cycling and there's a stark contrast with other forms of travel when the route twice passes beneath the M6 motorway.
