Just out of Gargrave there's a choice. One option is to head along country roads while the other takes this rough bridlepath - stoney in parts, yet manageable on a road bike, and fairly typical of the few bridlepaths the route encounters along its way. It's certainly safer on the short off-road sections, but the choice is there. Both ways meet up a few miles later at Airton where the route climbs steadily onto Pennine moorland and then dives into Settle. The cycle route has also just entered its second National Park, the Yorkshire Dales.
