From Settle the route follows the line of the river Ribble through the Ribble Valley before turning past Dry Rigg Quarry and a fantastic 2 miles of swerving downhill country lanes. Then it's a turn onto 1½ miles of bridleway which becomes quite rough and rock-strewn towards the end - it's actually the only point on the route (the last 100 metres) where every cyclist should dismount due to a steep, stepped descent and an extremely rough surface into Clapham.
