Cycling by Train If you can't cycle to the start of the route then try to use public transport if at all possible - all the routes are close to towns and cities with train access and the majority of train companies will carry your bike for free. Occasionally, the branch lines can be more problematical because at present you can't book up a branch line train in advance of your journey. However, the conductors in the main are obliging and 2 bikes are allowed on most trains. Some conductors will even allow more than two bikes on a train but it's all at their discretion. That's the way it is on the branch lines at the moment but the main lines are easier to get your cycle onboard. Please note that the rail maps include most lines, but space does not allow for all stations to be included. Check with National Rail Enquiries 08457 48 49 50 when planning and organising your cycle ride.
